GHUS&GHUK

Recently while researching Abc's General Hospital I found something interesting a UK version of the American soap opera.

They insist its not, but a spin off of another UK show ... however I see some similarities which are hard not to miss

Why they insist its not is beyond me and its clear as the deep blue sea. I find it a little suspect since their show opening theme shows an ambulance approaching the hospital much like our show does.

It  is almost a carbon copy of the opening sequence of GH USA from the 1970's - mid 90's.

Their GH title is also of the text format and is across the screen exactly the same as the American counterpart.

I'm not saying that its a bad thing , I'm just saying they should own it and admit it.

I also noticed The doctors shown in the very first episode which is in a clip below remind me of Dr Steve Hardy and a mixture Ric Webber and Alan Quartermaine.

Things that make you go hmm, and wtf , I think its hilarious , and kind of flattering to our GH stars that they did this.

The other intriguing thing is that the creators of the show describe the show as depicting the working and romantic lives of the the doctors and nurses of General Hospital.

Sound familiar? That's because that is how ABC's General Hospital has been depicted as in the tv guide in North America

The UK version first aired in  1972 9 years after the US Version we know and love first premiered on ABC in April 1963.

GH UK wound up being cancelled in 1979 because it wasn't gritty like the newer shows out there, perhaps they just tried and failed to ride on the coat tails, of ABC's Genral Hospital.

They say imitation is a form of flattery, I agree , but when the show trying to emmulate the other fails, its a sad state of affairs in my book.

There are no episodes left in the archives over at ATV , I'd love to see how the show progressed in the 7 years they were on the air.

Its a pity when things like that happen , but this GH USA fan is just happy ours has lasted for 52 years and still going strong
