General Hospital is an American Soap Opera, which was created by husband and wife team Frank and Doris Hursley and is set in the fictional city of Port Charles, New York , which is modelled after the city of Rochester New York.

It first aired on Abc on April 1st 1963 and is about the every day lives of the citizens of Port Charles , their hospital and assorted businesses around town.

In the Beginning the main focus was the GH staff who worked their tails off to tend to the sick, and the occasional mob boss or two with a gun shot wound.

Steve Hardy, Nurse Jessie Brewer and Dr  Phil Brewer were just a few of the main characters that were there from the beginning who made the show stand out.

Then there was Luke and Laura , the Cassadine, and the Scorpios who by the time I started watching GH were at the forefront of a very talented cast of characters who stood out and made us viewers begging for more.

Then in came Sonny Corinthos and his brand of charm and wit and behind him his many henchmen and his bad ass mob enforcer Jason Morgan ( formerly known as Jason Quartermaine) and with them a brand new wind of change. Carly Corinthos was and still is at the centre of it all backing up her bad boys to the max and making no apologies for it.

Many new sets of baddies who tried unsuccessfully to steal Sonny's territory and many innocent people wound up in the line of fire.  But Sonny always comes out smelling like a rose, because he's also the hero in these mob wars.

Aside from that there have been new people who have breezed into town in the shape of the Ashfords and most recently  Nina Clay, Nathan West, Franco , Kiki and Ava Jerome, Jordan and TJ Ashford and  Valerie Spencer who have put their feet  firmly on the ground of Port Charles.

They bring a breath of fresh air and a smile to our faces simply because their humor and a whole lot of new drama that leaves us fans begging for more.

What ever the future holds for GH is anyone's guess but the fans are going to have a ring side seat for this crazy ride
